This bathroom was in desperate need of renovation. First, the tile surrounding the tub was cracked. Second, the shower was loose, which was allowing water to leak into the walls. Third, the enamel on the cast iron tub was worn.
We made this bathroom appear larger and brighter. A few things we did:
We added more space to this bathroom by re-framing the tub and shower area. This allowed us to push the tub back. We gained several inches which allowed us to add more floor space.
Additionally, the storage units were dated and took up much of the space. Therefore, we decided to replace the units with a new vanity. We choose a vanity that fit the space, as a result the space felt larger.
We have typically found that many contractors are comfortable bidding a job without doing full take offs and without getting a full understanding of what materials a homeowner wants or expects.
This creates two problems:
1. It is difficult to quote an accurate price
2. It doesn’t guarantee you get what you think you are getting
It depends on the age of your home. Old foundations were prone to movement, and the support posts in damp basements were prone to rot.
